Former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan, who played pivotal roles in India's victories at the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 Cricket World Cup, has now made a significant mark in the political arena.

Representing the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Yusuf Pathan won the election from the Baharampur seat in West Bengal during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

This victory is particularly noteworthy as it marks the first time the Trinamool Congress has claimed this seat, previously considered a stronghold of the Congress party.

The 41-year-old Pathan emerged victorious against Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a seasoned politician who had held the Baharampur seat for two consecutive terms. Pathan secured a commanding win with a margin of 60,000 votes, as per the data from the Election Commission of India. This decisive victory signals a significant shift in the political landscape of the region.

Pathan's transition from cricket to politics has been closely watched since he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in February 2021.

His debut in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections has proven successful, highlighting his ability to connect with the electorate and his growing influence within the TMC.
