With India's ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign nearly 24 hours away, social media is flooded with former cricketers, experts, and fans debating over the nation's ideal XI against Ireland, which will be played in New York at the newly build Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

The most hotly debated discussion is related to India's opening slot, which has as mas many as four potential pairs.

Former India captain and opener Sunil Gavaskar in his opinion named a surprising XI to take the field, which is sans ace spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and includes young sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal

Chahal, who is India's leading wicket-taker in T20Is, is yet to play a T20 WC encounter, despite being named in 2022 squad.

Speaking to official broadcasters, Gavaskar stated his hesitance in making an XI but named five specialist batters, including one wicket-keeper, three all-rounders, one spinner, and two pacers in Team India's plying side for Wednesday.

The little master's India XI does not lack batting depth but is thin in bowling. Much will depend on both Pandya and Dube to bowl if need be, and add an extra cushion to the side.

Interestingly, in the warm-up against Bangladesh, coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma rested Jaiswal and opted to field Sanju Samson in the opening slot.

On Monday, Dravid confirmed that the management is undecided over the opening pair, stating that Virat Kohli is not yet slotted alongside Sharma.
