You get a little bit nervous: Finch explains tension during IPL auctions

This year, the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is being played in a bio-secure environment in Mumbai and Pune. And Kolkata Knight Riders opener Aaron Finch has commented on what goes through a cricketer’s mind during the Indian Premier League auction.

The Aussie opener went unsold during the latest IPL auction. But he was called up by the Kolkata franchise after England Batter Alex Hales made himself unavailable, citing bubble fatigue. Later, Finch was picked up for INR 1.5 crore by KKR.

The Australian limited-overs captain has played 89 matches in the IPL so far, with 2070 runs in his bag. The 35-year-old also led the Australian side to their T20 World Cup triumph in 2021.

In a recent interview with kkr.in, the prolific hitter said that he did not really get time to think about the auctions this year due to the ongoing matches for his country.

“I think it just depends. I think we played a game against Sri Lanka on that day. So you don’t think about it too much at all. But in the years gone past, there are times when you get a little bit nervous because you’re hopeful of getting picked.”

The Aussie skipper further noted that the IPL is a perfect platform to hone your skills by playing with the best players in the world.

“It’s just a great competition to be a part of, and I think when you’re not here, you really miss it. To have the chance to train and play with the best players in the world consistently. I think it makes everyone better. So that’s what you miss the most, and that’s what you get most nervous about, maybe missing the opportunity sometimes.”

Finch will be in action tomorrow for the Kolkata Knight Riders as they take on Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy Stadium.
