India are getting ready to play the fourth Test match against England at Old Trafford in Manchester as part of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. After losing two out of the first three games, India is trailing 1-2 in the five-match series. This means the fourth Test is a must-win game to stay in the series.

Farokh Engineer’s Warning to Rishabh Pant

Former India wicket-keeper Farokh Engineer has given a direct message to Rishabh Pant ahead of the match. Pant is known for playing bold and risky shots, which have worked for him in some matches but not always.

Engineer, however, thinks Test cricket needs a more disciplined approach. He said Pant should save those risky shots for the IPL, which is a shorter and faster version of the game. In Test matches, especially when batting at number three or four, players are expected to build long innings and score big runs.

"Absolutely. Save those for IPL. Test cricket demands discipline. From a number three or four, you expect them to play proper cricket, get big scores, and build innings," he told RevSportz.

He added that while Pant is talented and creative, he should avoid playing loose shots at key moments, like just before lunch or at the end of the day.

Rishabh Pant’s Injury May Affect His Participation

Pant hurt his finger while keeping wickets in the third Test at Lord’s and couldn’t keep for the rest of the match. Dhruv Jurel took over the wicketkeeping duties. Because of this injury, Pant’s availability for the fourth Test is still uncertain.

Despite the injury, Engineer believes Pant is good enough to be in the team even if he doesn’t keep wickets. With India desperate for a win, the team management might be tempted to play him just as a batter if he’s fit to bat.

Pant has been in outstanding form in this series. In his last six innings, he has scored 425 runs, making him the second-highest run-scorer in the series so far. His batting average is an impressive 70.83, with two centuries and two half-centuries to his name.
