Champions League T20 To Return In September

Further, a report from The Sydney Morning Herald mentioned that the return of the debunked Champions League T20 was also discussed among the members. It added that the ICC members were on the same page regarding resume the prestigious T20 event, and the report stated the plan is to bring it back in September next year.

The details regarding the structure of the league is yet to be known, but earlier, the reports mentioned that six teams are set to take part in the reboot, which is likely to be rebranded as the World Club Championship.

“Discussions were held on the proposed World Club Championship, including its window, format, schedule, etc. The CEOs of the Emirates League, Big Bash League, The Hundred, SA20, MLC, and Caribbean Premier League attended the meeting. Pakistan was also invited,” the source told the PTI.

No Representation Likely From PSL And IPL

Notably, the report mentioned that there will be no representation from IPL, and also the PCB rejected the invite, resulting in no teams from the PSL as well.

The first edition of the Champions League T20 took place in 2009 and was held annually until 2014. The tournament was discontinued in 2015 due to a lack of viewership and sponsorship issues. The PTI report said that the World Club Championship is being fast-tracked in a bid to counter the Saudi League, which is in planning and set to introduce a new T20 model along the lines of the Tennis Grand Slam.

However, it is expected that in the coming time, more details will be released by the ICC as they are seeing this tournament as equivalent to the Football Club World Cup.
