Former Indian fast bowler Varun Aaron has joined Sunrisers Hyderabad as their bowling coach for the 2026 Indian Premier League season. The IPL franchise confirmed the development through a post on its official X handle.
SRH Add Varun Aaron To Coaching Staff Before IPL 2026
Varun Aaron has become a part of the Orange Army family, joining the 2016 IPL winners as their bowling coach. He replaces New Zealand's former all-rounder James Franklin, who performed the role in the 2025 season.
Aaron played 52 IPL matches, scalping 44 wickets at a strike rate of 22.59. He represented multiple IPL franchises, including Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals in a career that lasted eleven years.
He played his final IPL game back in 2022 for Gujarat Titans against Delhi Capitals, bowling just an over and conceding seven runs in it.
SRH's Bowling Woes Force Them To Revamp Coaching Setup
Led by Pat Cummins, Sunrisers Hyderabad had a forgettable time in the IPL 2025 season. They managed only six victories across fourteen matches, finishing sixth in the ten-team standings.
The 2024 edition finalists had some evident flaws in their bowling department, with the likes of Mohammed Shami, Simarjeet Singh and Adam Zampa registering abysmal economy rates. While Harshal Patel emerged as their go-to man with the ball, skipper Pat Cummins performed in patches, recording a bowling average of 28.12.
Their pacers' ordinary performance prompted SRH to overhaul their coaching setup, appointing Aaron as the bowling coach. The fast bowler recently gained popularity as an analyst, sharing valuable insights on the broadcasting platform during the previous IPL season.
He was known for his ability to make the ball talk at a rapid pace, and his inclusion could ensure SRH's long-term benefits in the tournament.
