WTC Final | 'He Has Got Guts': Ganguly Lauds Ajinkya Rahane For His Magnificent 89

Former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly was full of praise for Ajinkya Rahane after the latters' brilliant knock of 89 in the first innings of the ongoing World Test Championship final against Australia at the Oval on Friday.

Rahane, who was on a comeback trail in this Test, repaid the faith shown in him by the Indian selectors and management as he creamed a fighting 89 after India had collapsed to 72/4 on the second evening.

Rahane rode his luck as he was pinned leg-before wicket by Pat Cummins early on in his innings on Day 02, but it turned out to be a no-ball.

He looked solid for most parts and didn't shy away from making the most of the loose balls dished out by the Aussie bowlers.

The former Indian skipper stitched a crucial 100-run-stand with the equally impressive Shardul Thakur on the third morning to help his team save the follow on.

Ajinkya was lucky to not be caught by David Warner in the slip cordon in the morning session, but just as it looked as if he was warming up for his 13th Test ton, Cameron Green pulled off a one-handed stunner in the gully post the morning session to end his stay.

Nevertheless, it was an innings full of character and flair, and Sourav Ganguly summed it up pretty well when he said:

"Ajinkya Rahane has got character, he has got guts, he's not someone who let go. He's a Champion player, once again he showed today."

Post Rahane's dismissal, India lost their next 3 wickets cheaply to get bowled out for 296, handing Australia a significant lead.

Mohammed Siraj struck early to send David Warner packing, but Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja battled his fiery spell to lead the Aussies to safety at the stroke of Tea.
