Angelo Mathews Miss Out From A Strong Sri Lankan Squad For World Cup Qualifiers

On Friday, the Sri Lankan national selection committee announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.

The 10-team World Cup Qualifiers will take place in Zimbabwe between June 18-July 09 to determine the 9th and 10th participants of the upcoming World Cup, which will take place in India later this year.

Sri Lanka will be led by all-rounder Dasun Shanaka, and they will be leaving for the African nation on June 10.

The island nation has named an experienced squad, with tried and tested names like Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Dimuth Karunaratne in the batting department.

Sadeera Samarawickrama, who did well in the recent series against Afghanistan, has been included as a reserve keeper.

The spin department will be led by Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga, while Dushmantha Chameera, Kasun Rajitha, Lahiru Kumara and yorker specialist, Matheesha Pathirana will handle the pacers arena.

Sri Lanka have been clubbed alongside Scotland, UAE, Ireland and Oman in Group A.

They will open their campaign against the United Arab Emirates at the iconic Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on June 19.
