Agni Chopra mauled Manipur’s bowling attack in Mizoram’s latest Ranji Trophy Plate Group 2024 match at the Gokulbhai Somabhai Patel Stadium in Nadiad. Batting at number three, the cricketer racked up 218 runs from just 269 balls to plunder his second successive double century, after last week’s 238* against Arunachal Pradesh.
Chopra’s latest batting blitz has further extended his dominance as the 26-year-old continues to lead the run-scoring charts of the overall 2024 Ranji Trophy season.
Agni Chopra slams third century of 2024 Ranji season
Agni Chopra, son of renowned Indian filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra, listed his third consecutive 100-plus score and second successive double century through the course of his 218-run masterclass against Manipur. The left-handed top-order batter unleashed 29 boundaries and a six in his marathon knock to top-score for Mizoram in the first two days of the match.
Chopra has now accumulated 646 runs in just five innings to extend his dominance as the leading run-maker of the 2024 Ranji Trophy Plate League, as well as of the overall 2024 Ranji Trophy season. As of now, he is leading second-placed Shubham Khajuria’s (Jammu and Kashmir) tally of 360 runs by a landslide.
Earlier this month at the Gujarat College Ground in Ahmedabad, Agni Chopra made 110 runs from 138 balls with 19 boundaries to top-score in Mizoram’s mere 247-run first innings effort. Moreover, the youngster also whacked an unbeaten 238 from just 209 deliveries at a strike rate of 113.87 in the second innings to set up a 400-run target for Arunachal Pradesh. For his twin hundreds in the match, Agni Chopra was fittingly declared the ‘Player of the Match’ after Mizoram secured a huge 267-run win.
Overall, Agni Chopra holds a Bradman-esque batting average of 99.01 in first-class cricket. His elite batting profile is glittered with eight hundreds and four half-centuries, all while holding an astonishing strike rate of nearly a 100.
