India’s all-rounder Deepti Sharma etched her name into cricketing history by being crowned Player of the Tournament at the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup. Her stellar all-round display was instrumental in guiding India to their long-awaited World Cup triumph, combining consistency with match-winning brilliance throughout the competition.

With the bat, Deepti showcased remarkable composure and adaptability, amassing 215 runs at an average of 30.71. Her contributions included three crucial half-centuries, each coming in high-pressure situations, including one in the Final, when it mattered the most.

Whether rebuilding after early setbacks or accelerating during the death overs, Deepti’s versatility proved invaluable to her team’s campaign. However, it was with the ball that the off-spinning all-rounder truly dominated the tournament.

Deepti finished as the highest wicket-taker, claiming 22 wickets at an impressive average of 20.40 and a strike rate of 22.1. Her control, flight, and tactical awareness consistently troubled batters across conditions.

World Cup glory feels like a dream for Deepti

As Deepti Sharma stepped up to receive the Player of the Tournament award, the packed stadium erupted in applause. The magnitude of the moment sunk in, years of hard work had paid off, and her emotions poured out in heartfelt words.

"Honestly, this final is a dream come true. Too many emotions going at the moment and it feels very nice to contribute like that in the World Cup final,” Deepti said.

The highlight of her bowling performance came in the final at Navi Mumbai, where she delivered a breathtaking five-wicket haul, including the big wicket of centurion Laura Wolvaardt, dismantling the opposition and sealing India’s victory in emphatic fashion.

From 2017 heartbreak to 2025 glory

Going back to the heartbreak of the 2017 final, where Deepti Sharma was part of the playing XI, her journey came full circle in 2025. With gratitude and pride, she dedicated her triumph to her parents and the game’s growing standards.

"And I would like to say that the number of matches and the standards have gone up. just wanted to say that I would like to dedicate this trophy to my mom and dad,” Deepti added.
