The Women’s Premier League 2026 auction in Delhi on November 27 brought high drama, intense bidding wars, and some record-breaking numbers. One of the biggest moments of the day was when India all-rounder Deepti Sharma returned to the UP Warriorz for a massive Rs 3.20 crore.
Deepti becomes second-most expensive Indian player in WPL history
Notably, the team used their Right to Match (RTM) option to bring her back after a tough bidding battle with the Delhi Capitals. With this price, Deepti became the second-most expensive Indian player in Women’s Premier League history.
Deepti entered the auction with a base price of Rs 50 lakh as part of the marquee players’ group. Her high value didn’t come as a surprise. Notably, she is one of India’s top performers and was named Player of the Tournament in the recent World Cup. She has scored more than 500 runs and taken 27 wickets in the WPL so far.
The 28-year-old has also led the UP Warriorz before, and her ability to contribute in different situations makes her one of the most valuable all-rounders in the league.
Another big name in the marquee list, Amelia Kerr, also went back to her previous team, the Mumbai Indians, for Rs 3 crore. Kerr has been one of the most consistent performers in the league. She was the joint-highest wicket-taker in WPL 2025, and overall has picked up around 40 wickets in the tournament at an impressive average of 17.90.
With the bat too, she averages nearly 28 in T20 Internationals, making her a reliable all-rounder. It was expected that Mumbai Indians would go all out for her, and they did.
Meanwhile, New Zealand star Sophie Devine was also in high demand. A bidding war broke out between the GG and DC, but in the end, Giants signed her for Rs 2 crore.
