Former Pakistan cricketer Imran Khan, who is currently lodged in a jail in Rawalpindi, has become a top trend all over the media with unverified claims of his death. The talks began with the Afghan Times claiming to have information from sources that the former Pakistan PM had been "murdered" in Rawalpindi's Adiala jail.

Captaining the Pakistan cricket team to victory in the 1992 Cricket World Cup, Imran Khan called curtains on his international career in the same year. Only a few years later, he founded his political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and served as its chairman from 1996 to 2023.

The claims, though unverified and unsubstantiated, have caused a stir all over the globe, with concerns surrounding Imran Khan's current situation.

What happened to Imran Khan?

The 72-year-old cricketer-turned-politician has been in jail since 2023 after being convicted in a web of corruption cases.

On 9 May 2023, former Prime Minister and politician Imran Khan was arrested from inside the Islamabad High Court in Islamabad by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on the charges of corruption in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust, which he owns alongside his wife, Bushra Bibi.

Notably, this isn't the first time that conversations around Imran Khan's condition in jail have circulated. Previously, according to 'The Hindu', a four-member medical team was sent to conduct a medical check-up on Imran Khan amid concerns about his health. Apart from that, news of his suffering from hearing loss and vertigo also emerged.

Imran Khan's current news amid death rumours

MoFA of Balochistan announce Imran Khan's assassination

In a development, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the self-styled Balochistan, adding fuel to the fire, claimed that Khan had been assassinated in Adalia jail. Sharing a post on X, it was alleged that Pakistan's intelligence agency, ISI, and Army chief General Asim Munir had hatched the conspiracy to kill the PTI chairman.

"If this information is confirmed to be true, it marks the absolute end of terrorist Pakistan. The collapse of its last remaining legitimacy will begin the moment the truth is exposed to the world," the post warned.

An old photo of Imran Khan in hospital has also gone viral, but those have been dismissed as fake.

On top of that, an old photo of Khan in the hospital is going viral but has been dismissed as fake. Moreover, amid the rumours, one of Khan's sisters, Aleema Khan, and his political party supporters called off their sit-in at the Gorakhpur checkpost near Adiala Jail following successful negotiations with the police.

According to another Pakistani news channel, ARY News, police assured them that meetings with the former Prime Minister would be arranged.

Imran Khan's sisters' claims of mistreatment amid death rumours

Since Wednesday, the rumours spread like wildfire, soon after it was reported that Imran Khan's family was not allowed to meet him in jail and that the former Pakistan PM was being held in solitary confinement. It was also reported that his sisters, sitting in protest outside the Adiala jail, were maltreated as they demanded a meeting with him.

Imran Khan’s three sisters – Noreen, Aleema, and Uzma alleged that the political leader has been "brutally assaulted" inside the Adiala jail, where he has often complained of mistreatment and harassment by jail authorities.

Adiala jail authorities claims Imran Khan ‘fully healthy’

Adding to the controversy, Adiala jail authorities refuted rumours claiming former Pakistan PM Imran Khan had died in custody, saying he is “fully healthy” and has not been shifted from the prison.

In a statement reported by 'Telangana today', officials from the Rawalpindi prison said, “There is no truth to reports about his transfer from Adiala jail. He is fully healthy and receiving complete medical attention,” leading Pakistani daily ‘The News International’ reported.

The clarification came as PTI and Khan’s sisters demanded proof of his well-being and access to meet him.
