In a stunning display of talent and potential, Chandigarh's very own Kashvee Gautam has become a sensation at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 auction. The Gujarat Giants, recognising her exceptional abilities, snapped her up for a staggering INR 2 crore, setting a new record for the most expensive uncapped player in the league's history. This significant occasion marks a huge milestone in the young all-rounder's burgeoning career.

The 20-year-old prodigy's rise to this pinnacle has been the stuff of dreams. The bidding war that ensued over her was proof of her burgeoning reputation in the cricketing world. Gujarat Giants led the charge, with RCB Women momentarily stepping in before retreating at INR 65 lakh.

UP Warriorz then entered the fray, escalating the bids into fierce competition. Ultimately, when the bid soared to a colossal INR 2 crore, the Warriorz backed down, paving the way for the Gujarat Giants to claim this rising star.

Who is Kashvee Gautam?

Gautam's cricketing journey is highlighted by remarkable achievements. A right-arm seamer, she can strike the ball long. Her claim to fame was solidified in 2020 when she delivered a spectacular performance in a women's domestic Under-19 competition, taking ten wickets, including a hat-trick, for Chandigarh against Arunachal Pradesh.

This outstanding feat earned her a spot in the Women's T20 Challenge, putting her on the radar of significant scouts in the sport.

Gautam, renowned for her formidable height and aggressive bowling, has continuously worked on enhancing her pace following feedback from scouts at the previous year's WPL auction. During the Senior Women's T20 Trophy, she claimed 12 wickets in seven games, maintaining an impressive economy rate of 4.14.

Furthermore, earlier this year, she played a crucial role in India's Under-23 squad at the ACC Emerging tournament in Hong Kong. She made notable contributions in the subsequent series, securing three wickets for India A.

Now, the future looks bright for Gautam as she gears up to lead Chandigarh's women's under-23 team in an upcoming T20 tournament in Mumbai. The team's campaign kicks off on December 10 against Bihar and will see them compete against formidable teams like Delhi, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh.

Kashvee Gautam's journey from being overlooked in the last WPL auction to becoming a record-setting sensation is a story of hope, hard work, and determination.
