The 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season is scheduled to kick off on February 22. According to recent reports, Bengaluru and Delhi are poised to serve as the exclusive hosts for all matches in the tournament, marking a departure from last year’s WPL tradition of a single-city venue.

WPL 2024 to commence from February 22

According to a report from Revsportz, the WPL 2024 season will commence from February 22 onwards, with the opening match of the tournament poised to be staged at Bengaluru. The reports further stated that Delhi is being lined-up as the venue for the final.

Last year, the WPL 2023 season was hosted in its entirety by two Mumbai venues, i.e., the Brabourne Stadium and the DY Patil Stadium.

Earlier in January, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla confirmed Delhi and Bengaluru as venues for the high-profile tournament, stating that matches will be evenly allocated to both cities.

Interestingly, back in December 2023, Lucknow and Kanpur emerged as favorites to host the competition.

The WPL 2023 season was a three-week event staged between March 4 and March 26. Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium and the adjoining DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai hosted all 22 matches of the premier T20 event, where the hosts, the Mumbai Indians, emerged victorious by defeating the Delhi Capitals in the final.

The venues for the IPL 2024 season, on the other hand, is yet to be finalized by the BCCI. Rajiv Shukla confirmed that the board is actively involved in discussions with the Indian government, considering the IPL 2024 launch date will be coinciding with the 2024 general elections.
