The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla has confirmed that no decision has been made regarding a possible venue shift for IPL 2024, and discussions with the Indian government regarding the coinciding general elections are still ongoing.

While the IPL 2024 season is scheduled to commence sometime in the final week of March, the initial stage of the tournament is set to coincide with the 2024 general elections in India.

Previously, the 2009 and 2014 editions of IPL were relocated to South Africa and UAE, respectively, owing to the elections. However, the 2019 chapter of the annual T20 event was staged entirely in India.

Rajiv Shukla shares IPL 2024 venue update

Rajiv Shukla recently claimed that the BCCI is currently involved in active discussions with the Indian government regarding the potential shift in venue for the IPL 2024 season. He further confirmed that the board will be making any confirmation only after the conclusion of these discussions. While speaking with the InsideSport, he said:

“Discussions are ongoing with the Indian government and the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding whether the IPL will be shifted or not. Confirmation can only be made after these discussions.”

While the schedule for the IPL 2024 season is yet to be announced, the BCCI has set March 29 as a tentative launch date for the tournament. As many as ten teams will participate in the high-profile event, with 74 matches spread throughout the double round-robin league stage and the resultant playoffs.

Prior to the IPL 2024, the BCCI will be hosting the much-awaited WPL 2024 season in India. Shukla confirmed that half of the WPL 2024 matches will take place in Bengaluru while the remaining half will be played in Delhi.
