In a major boost for Mumbai Indians Women, their captain Harmanpreet Kaur will be available for selection in the next Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on Saturday.

The Mumbai Indians Women captain missed the last match against UP Warriorz due to a niggle. In her absence, the defending champions lost the match by seven wickets.

However, MI Women head coach Charlotte Edwards has confirmed that Kaur will be available for selection in the next match. Notably, the India captain is the leading run scorer in the WPL 2024, amassing 101 runs, with knocks of 55 and 46* against the Delhi Capitals Women and Gujarat Giants Women, respectively.

“Yeah, unfortunately, Harman was not available for selection today (Wednesday). But she should be back for Saturday (against RCB), and I am really confident on that,” said Edwards in the post-match press meet.

The concerns about their South African medium pacer, Shabnim Ismail, still loom large, as she is yet to recover from her niggle and will not be available for selection in the next match.

However, Edwards said that Ismail is being closely monitored, hinting that the South African veteran will be unavailable to play in the match against RCB Women.

“We’re just waiting on Ismail. It shouldn’t be too long. But obviously, we don’t want to kind of bring her back too early,” she said.

Incidentally, Ismail is the second-highest wicket taker in the tournament so far. She returned figures of 1/24 against DC Women and 3/18 against Gujarat Giants Women to accumulate four wickets.
