As Pakistan brace themselves for their opening match of the 2023 World Cup against the Netherlands, their senior speedster Shaheen Afridi caught up with some youngsters. Afridi, who is expected to helm Pakistan's pace attack at the tournament, took time amidst training to share his experience and wisdom with aspiring cricketers at the iconic venue.

Shaheen Afridi turns mentor for a youngster

A photo circulating on social media unveils the sporting side of Shaheen Afridi at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. The speedster, spotted in his training jersey, seemingly guided one of the young cricketers present at the venue.

Afridi's sporting gesture was widely lauded by netizens, who hailed his moment of mentorship just a day prior to Pakistan's opening World Cup 2023 clash.

Pakistan will face the Netherlands at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad on October 6. The match marks the opening fixtures for both sides in this tournament.

Shaheen Afridi recently underwent some game time during Pakistan's second warm-up outing at the same venue on October 3. In a high-scoring shootout, the speed maverick conceded just 25 runs from his six overs.

However, Pakistan lost their two matches despite scoring over 300-plus totals against their warm-up opponents, New Zealand and Australia.

Babar Azam and co. will commence their tournament campaign with a game against the Netherlands, while their much-awaited bout remains their forthcoming clash against hosts and arch-rivals India on October 14. The match is slated to be hosted by the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
