In a shocking turn of events, Australia's in-form all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is set to miss their high-voltage World Cup 2023 clash against England on November 4, scheduled to take place at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The swashbuckling player lost his grip on a moving golf buggy, and thus, he had go 'under concussion protocols'.
Per ESPNCricinfo, Maxwell will undergo concussion protocols for six to eight days.
In Maxwell's absence, Australia will start one of Cameron Green or Marcus Stoinis against their bitter rivals, the reigning champions who are struggling in India.
Maxwell had been in sublime form in the ongoing World Cup in India, where he hit the quickest century in the tournament’s history. The all-rounder crossed the three-digit mark in just 40 balls against the Netherlands, and he had been equally impressive with the ball in hand.
However, it is confirmed that Maxwell will be available for the knockout stages if Australia qualify. In fact, he could be available for the Bangladesh fixture as well, on November 11. Maxwell, however, appears to be rested in Australia's second last league match against Afghanistan.
Having won four in six matches, Australia are placed fourth on the points table. They began with consecutive losses but roared back in style with a four-match winning streak. Maxwell, in this outstanding run, played his part as well.
England, meanwhile, are stationed at the bottom of the points table, having lost five out of six games.
