Indian cricket administrator Jay Shah has extended his best wishes to all the competing teams of the Duleep Trophy 2024 season. Taking to X a day prior to the launch of the prestigious first-class tournament in Bengaluru, Shah signified the importance of the four-team event by highlighting India’s upcoming hectic Test season.

Remarkably, the Duleep Trophy 2024 season features numerous Indian international stars in the mix. The six-match tournament will be followed by India’s home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, and a blockbuster five-match tour of Australia later this year. Each of the aforementioned Test fixtures constitutes a part of the ongoing 2023-25 WTC cycle.

Jay Shah hypes up Duleep Trophy ahead of Test season

On September 4, ICC chairman Jay Shah took to X and expressed his excitement of witnessing Indian international stars in action in the Duleep Trophy 2024 season. Shah also extended his best wishes to all the competing teams and signified the importance of the competition with regards to India’s upcoming Test ventures against Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia.

The cricket administrator praised the intricate nature of red-ball game, describing it the 'purest form' of the sport and implied that the Duleep Trophy 2024 season is a strong way to start India’s Test season.

The Duleep Trophy 2024 season will launch on September 5 with two matches in Bengaluru and Anantapur. A Shubman Gill-led Team A will face Abhimanyu Easwaran’s Team B in the opening match of the tournament, while Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Team C and Shreyas Iyer’s Team D will square off simultaneously at the Rural Development Trust Stadium.

Senior Indian international stars in the form of KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh among several others are slated to take part in the four-team competition. The 17-day event will also be graced by rising Indian players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Devdutt Padikkal and Dhruv Jurel.
