The RCB Women franchise, under the leadership of charismatic skipper Smriti Mandhana, won the WPL 2024 season earlier this year. The month-long T20 competition gained much popularity, as crowds gathered in large numbers for nearly all matches played out in Bengaluru and Delhi.

Apparently, a recent study indicates that the WPL stocks rose eight percent from its preceding chapter back in 2023. The Indian Premier League (IPL), on the other hand, witnessed an ecosystem decrease as per a valuation service report.

WPL gains popularity, IPL value decreases in staggering report

As reported by Moneycontrol, a valuation report from D&P Advisory indicates that the value for the WPL went up by eight percent through this year’s 2024 edition. The report reads that WPL’s current value stands at Rs.1,350 crore, in comparison to the Rs.1,250 value it had back during the inaugural season of the tournament in 2023.

The IPL ecosystem, on the other hand, fell 10. 6 percent to Rs. 82, 700 crore in 2024. Back in 2023, the value stood at an estimated Rs. 92, 500 crore. The D&P Advisory Managing Partner Santosh N attributed WPL’s success to the rapid rise in the popularity of women’s cricket all over the world.

Santosh even claimed that the achievement of WPL might generate similar success stories for other women-led T20 leagues like WBBL and Women’s The Hundred, among others.

While the prestigious IPL event witnessed a rare decline this year in terms of its annual valuation, the BCCI-backed tournament is still considered the most popular and the biggest franchise-based cricket league in the world. The Indian T20 competition also has an exclusive window in the ICC Future Tours Programme.

Earlier this year, a Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) group lifted the IPL 2024 trophy by defeating season’s cult heroes SRH in the final.
