Scotland opener George Munsey peppered the leg side during his blazing 28-run cameo against heavyweights Australia in the first T20 of their three-match series in Edinburgh. The cricketer faced just 16 deliveries in the innings, and took a special liking to Australia’s new-ball paceman Riley Meredith in the opening powerplay.

Munsey’s batting blitz set up Scotland’s competitive first-innings total of 154-9 after they were put into bat by Australian captain Mitchell Marsh. Scotland captain Richie Berrington and wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Cross also chipped in with swift 20s in the middle overs after the powerplay assault launched by the attacking opener.

George Munsey takes the attack to Australia

Unfazed by the giant stature of the visiting Australian cricket team, Scotland opener George Munsey smeared 28 runs from just 16 deliveries within the first six overs of the innings with two boundaries and three sixes. Munsey seems to have taken a special liking to Riley Meredith, as he smacked two of those sixes off consecutive deliveries off the right-arm paceman by peppering his leg side.

George Munsey was eventually dismissed by Sean Abbott in the sixth over of the innings. Taking a swing at Abbott, Munsey merely managed to nick one towards visiting wicketkeeper Josh Inglis.

While George Munsey’s powerplay assault helped Scotland set up a competitive total of 154-9 from 20 overs, a raging Australian top-order one-upped the effort in their dismissive batting approach in the run-chase.

Chasing 155, Australia blasted 113 runs in the mandatory six-over powerplay period courtesies of explosive knocks from Travis Head and captain Mitchell Marsh. Moreover, the visitors had lost opening batter Jake Fraser-McGurk for a three-ball duck early in the innings before Head and Marsh collectively went berserk with a sequence of brutal ball-striking.
