The Champions Trophy 2025 has been full of controversies and the tournament hasn't even started yet. First, the tussle continued between Pakistan and India regarding the hybrid model venue, as India outright rejected playing in the host nation, while Pakistan were adamant that the tournament won't be shifted.

Now, once everything is settled between the two boards, a fresh controversy has erupted. Reportedly, India has decided not to include Pakistan's name on their Champions Trophy jersey. As per the rules, every team needs to put up the name of the host nation on their jersey, but India has reportedly decided not to do that.

As per reports, the ICC hasn't taken this decision in a kind way and has stated that as per the standards practices, the participating teams must put the host nation's name on their jersey.

Will ICC punish India?

  • India not wearing the jersey with Pakistan's name on it will be a breach of ICC Official clothing code.
  • Interestingly, Pakistan's jersey during the T20 World Cup 2021 featured India's name, despite the tournament being shifted to UAE.

Also, when Pakistan participated in the 2016 T20 World Cup in India, and the 2023 50-over World Cup, they had printed India's name on their jerseys. India will likely breach the code of ICC and PCB could file a written complain which could prompt the ICC to take action against the BCCI.

The Champions Trophy is set to begin from February 19, and will conclude on March 9. The 8-team tournament will be hosted in Dubai, Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi.

The opening fixture of the tournament will have Pakistan taking on New Zealand in a mouth-watering contest.
