With the ICC Champions Trophy nearing, new tensions have emerged between India and Pakistan, creating a new controversy that has made headlines. According to reports by IANS, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is objecting to the printing of Pakistan's name on Team India's jerseys. After the implementation of Hybrid Model, despite Pakistan being the host, India will play its matches in Dubai because of security reasons, given India's reluctance to send a team to Pakistan.
BCCI vs PCB?
The hybrid model that allowed the tournament to be played in two countries was reached after months of negotiations. However, the new controversy has arisen over India's refusal to feature Pakistan's name on its jersey, which has further complicated matters between the two cricketing boards.
A Pakistan Cricket Board official, while talking to news agency IANS, accused the BCCI of "politics into cricket," saying that not featuring the host nation's name on the Indian jersey was a part of a long-term political agenda.
Rohit Sharma To Not Travel To Pakistan?
The controversy doesn’t stop there. India’s refusal to send captain Rohit Sharma to the captains' meeting in Pakistan for the opening ceremony further added fuel to the fire. As part of ICC tradition, a photoshoot and press conference with captains is held before major tournaments. While an old reports suggested that the Indian captain will go to Pakistan, the new report states something else. Despite PCB’s efforts to resolve the matter, the BCCI has remained firm in its stance as per the report.
The conflict has become a significant talking point, with many questioning the role of politics in a sport that is often seen as a bridge between nations. Meanwhile, the tournament is set to begin from 19 February.
