Amid rumours of India’s hesitance to put Pakistan’s name on its Champions Trophy jersey, an unnamed ICC official has clarified that all teams are obliged to comply with the rules as putting the name of the host country on tournament jerseys is mandatory.

India Refuse To Put Pakistan's Name On Champions Trophy Jersey

The 2025 Champions Trophy is set to begin from February 19 in Pakistan. The schedule was released after a deadlock between India and Pakistan ended with a compromise. PCB agreed to a hybrid model with certain conditions. This means, India’s games will be played at a neutral venue and not in the host country, i.e Pakistan.

The BCCI had objected to travelling to Pakistan due to security reasons. Though PCB revolted, it had to settle the dispute after the ICC’s intervention.

ICC issued a clarification on India’s jersey dispute

However, ahead of the tournament opener, another controversy erupted when reports came out that India is unlikely to put host country Pakistan's name on its Champions Trophy jersey due to political reasons.

Amid raging speculations, an unnamed ICC official spoke to Cricket Pakistan and cleared the air. The official stated that according to standard branding practices, participating teams, such as India, have to display the tournament logo and the name of the host country.

"It is the responsibility of every team to add the tournament logo to their jerseys. All teams are obligated to comply with this rule," the ICC official said.

Both the ICC and the PCB have rubbished these reports as false. The PCB also confirmed that no discussion at all had been made regarding the jersey design with Indian media, when it responded to the reports labelling them speculative and misleading.

Rohit Sharma unlikely to travel to Pakistan for captain’s photoshoot

The row over the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 keeps on gaining steam as it has now come out that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma might not go to Pakistan for the traditional captains' photoshoot and press conference ahead of the tournament.

The BCCI has reportedly stuck to its guns over not sending the Indian captain to Pakistan, even after the PCB tried to find a way out. Needless to say, the absence of Rohit Sharma from the pre-tournament rituals could further strain relations between the two cricket boards.
