Peshawar Zalmi gears up for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 9 with Babar Azam set to lead the Yellow Storm for the second consecutive season. Head coach Mohammad Akram revealed insights into the team's preparations, player strategies, and expectations for the tournament commencing on February 17 in Lahore.

Addressing Babar Azam's role within the team, Akram highlighted the star batter's preference for the opening position.

"We have no objections to Babar Azam playing in any position, but he prefers to open. The team's captain, Babar Azam, has done well in the opening role," according to Akram.

With the squad's top-order batters adaptable to various positions, the final combination will be solidified upon the arrival of overseas players. Emphasizing flexibility, Akram noted,

"Our top-order batters are ready to play in any position, and our overseas players are expected to arrive, after which we will finalize the combination."

Furthermore, Mohammad Yousuf joins the coaching staff as a mentor, offering valuable insights and guidance to both seasoned and budding cricketers.

"Muhammad Yousuf has been included in the coaching staff as a batting mentor. He will work with young cricketers and contribute to our team's development," affirmed Akram.

In anticipation of a stellar performance, Akram expressed confidence in the team's capabilities, citing past achievements where Peshawar Zalmi reached the playoffs for eight consecutive years and contested in four finals.

"Every year, we aim to select a competitive squad. This season, we have a blend of experienced and emerging talents," Akram stated.

While acknowledging the desire for more matches in Peshawar to cater to the fervent fanbase, Akram expressed optimism for a successful season ahead.

"Our fans have been eagerly awaiting matches in our home ground, and we aim to deliver an exciting spectacle for them," he remarked.

With Babar Azam's impressive track record in the PSL, having played 79 matches, and scored 2935 runs, including one century and 50 half-centuries, expectations run high for his leadership and batting skills. At 29 years old, Azam's maturity and experience add depth to the team's lineup.
