Ahead of the big third Test match between India and England in Rajkot from 15th February, the Saurashtra Cricket Association has decided to rechristen the stadium to Niranjan Shah Stadium, giving tribute to former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and SCA secretary.

Niranjan's son Jaydev Shah, who is currently the SCA President, took forward the initiative to rename the stadium, which got approval from office bearers last year in October during the association's Annual General Meeting.

Shah informed that it received a positive response from all the members involved, as he thanked Niranjan for his significant contribution towards Indian cricket.

"This is a very big occasion. This is our way of honouring a person who has given 50 years of his life to cricket and achieved so much. He has also been the BCCI secretary in the past, and has worked so much for cricket in Saurashtra. I think it's a very good gesture by the SCA and its members."

Niranjan Shah almost spent 40 years of his life serving Saurashtra cricket as its secretary and was later elected as the BCCI secretary for four terms.

Speaking about the great privilege, Niranjan expressed his gratitude as he has been honoured with such an accolade after spending years taking care of cricket in the region and country.

"It's a great honour for me after having rendered my services for cricket. BCCI secretary Jay Shah will inaugurate the 30000-capacity stadium at 6.30 pm on February 14 with a host of dignitaries expected to be present on the occasion of the naming of the cricket facility."

Coming to cricket, India is all set to take on England in the third Test in Rajkot with series levelled 1-1 and three games remaining.
