The International Cricket Council (ICC), on Monday (August 7) imposed a fine on West Indies wicketkeeper batter Nicholas Pooran for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the 2nd T20I against India at Guyana.

Pooran has been fined a 15 per cent match fee for criticising the umpire’s decision. He was found to have breached Article 2.7 of the ‘ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel’, regarding an event that took place during an international game.

The incident happened in the fourth over of the India innings when the Southpaw was critical of the umpires for having to use up a player review for a LBW call which he thought was clearly not out.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) statement read:

“Pooran was found to have breached Article 2.7 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to public criticism in relation to an incident occurring in an international match.”

The same release has confirmed that the keeper-batter has admitted to the offence and hence there is no need for an official hearing. He admitted to the sanction of the fine proposed by match referee Richie Richardson. In addition to this, one demerit point has also been added to Pooran's disciplinary record.

Meanwhile, the West Indian has been in sublime touch of late. While he scored 41 off 34 in the series opener, his counter-attacking knock of 67 runs off 40 balls was instrumental in the hosts’ two-wicket victory in the second T20I. The 27-year-old was adjudged the Player of the match for his performance.

With two back-to-back wins in the first two matches of the series, West Indies have already taken a 2-0 lead in the five-match series, and India will now head into the third T20I match in a do-or-die situation with the series at stake.

The decider will be played on Tuesday (August 8) at Providence Stadium, Guyana, before they travel to Florida for the final two fixtures of India's tour.
