The Foreign Ministry of Pakistan, on Sunday (August 06), released a statement confirming that their national cricket team will travel to India to participate in the ICC World Cup 2023

Notably, Pakistan earlier threatened to boycott the World Cup following India's refusal to travel to their country for the Asia Cup 2023. However, the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan asserted that sports and politics must remain separate.

Notably, Pakistan's stance regarding its participation in the World Cup was ambiguous due to political tensions with the host nation, India.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), earlier, stated that their team's participation in the World Cup will be contingent upon government clearance.

Here’s what the foreign ministry of Pakistan said in a release:

“Pakistan has consistently maintained that sports should not be mixed with politics. It has, therefore, decided to send its Cricket Team to India to participate in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.”

The released statement from Pakistan also included jabs at India's 'intransigent attitude.' Pakistan also voiced apprehensions about their cricket team's safety in India and called upon the BCCI and ICC to guarantee their team's complete security.

"Pakistan, however, has deep concerns about the security of its cricket team. We are conveying these concerns to the International Cricket Council and the Indian authorities. We expect that the full safety and security of the Pakistan Cricket Team will be ensured during its visit to India.”

The much-awaited India versus Pakistan match in ICC World Cup 2023 has been rescheduled and will now be played on October 14 instead of October 15.
