Team India bowlers restricted West Indies to just 151 to secure a 200-run win in the series-deciding third ODI in Tarouba.

Mukesh Kumar jolts WI top-order

Mukesh Kumar, playing just the third ODI of his career, got the new ball swinging to dismantle the West Indies top-order amidst their colossal run-chase task. The speedster removed both West Indies openers, Brandon King and Kyle Mayers, along with captain and in-form number four Shai Hope, all within the first seven overs of the innings.

Kumar’s sublime opening gambit tendered West Indies toothless early in the run-chase, and the 29-year-old pacer eventually finished with figures of 3-30 from his seven overs.

Thakur’s four-fer trembles WI further

Shardul Thakur provided much assistance to Mukesh Kumar at the top before he returned to polish off the West Indies tail inside 36 overs. For starters, his opening spell, alongside Kumar’s, had reduced hosts to 88-8 at one stage.

Gudakesh Motie, who emerged as West Indies’ most economical bowler from the Indian innings, also turned out to be their top-scorer with the bat, as his unbeaten 39 kept the match alive for nearly an hour. The tail-ender formed a 55-run stand with Alzarri Joseph before the latter feathered an edge back to Ishan Kishan off Thakur.

Jaydev Unadkat, playing in his first ODI in over a decade, celebrated the occasion with a wicket, while ace spinner Kuldeep Yadav snared two from his end to shoot out the West Indies for just 151.

Summary of Indian innings

Earlier in the game, Team India charted a monstrous 351-5 off the back of sparkling half-centuries from Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson and interim skipper Hardik Pandya. Suryakumar Yadav also regained his lost touch in ODIs with a 30-ball 35 in the death overs.

The two sides will now clash in the upcoming five-match T20I series, with the first of those fixtures set to be played at the same venue on August 3.
