The Pakistan Super League is set for its most significant transformation since its launch. The Pakistan Cricket Board will hold an much-important auction today, Thursday, January 8, for two new franchises. The auction will take place at the Jinnah Convention Centre in Islamabad.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 4:15 pm (local time) and will feature a special live performance by renowned singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan after the conclusion of the bidding process.
PCB to hold auction for two new teams in Islamabad
This expansion comes after the ownership rights of the existing PSL franchises expired following the 2025 season. As a result, the PCB decided to introduce two new owned teams from the 11th edition of the league onward.
The upcoming PSL season is scheduled to begin on March 23, 2026, with the two new teams making their debut.
To ensure strong, competitive ownership, the PCB undertook an extensive process to attract investors. Roadshows were held in New York and London last month to promote the new franchises and encourage global interest.
Following this process, 10 bidders were approved and qualified to participate in the auction.
The event will be conducted live, with the highest bidders securing ownership of the two new teams. Once finalised, these teams will join the existing franchises and take part in PSL 11, making it the first eight-team season in the league's history.
