Mumbai Indians (MI) will be hosting Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium in match 55 of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday, May 05.

Since 2013, when SRH first came into existence, the two sides have gone head-to-head on 22 occasions where MI has had a slight edge in the rivalry with 12 wins to SRH's 10 which also includes a super over win in super over in 2019.

Going into Monday's match, the two sides find themselves in completely different situations. The hosts are virtually out of the tournament with just 3 wins in 11 games while the visitors, with 6 wins in 10 games can still potentially end up in top-2 if some results go in their favour.

When MI Last Met SRH

The Sunrisers hosted Mumbai in match 8 of the ongoing IPL season back on March 27. Pat Cummins won the toss and put MI to the field first. They wanted to post a good total in the first innings, considering their explosive batting order.

Living up to his reputation, Travis Head, who was making his debut for the Orange Army went after the MI bowlers from the word go before Abhishek Sharma joined him in the fifth over. Head and Sharma scored 62 (24) and 63 (23) respectively, setting a solid foundation for hitters like Markram and Klaasen.

Heinrich Klaasen joined Aiden Markram when the latter was batting on 17*(7) in the 11th over as the wicketkeeper wreaked havoc in the final 9 overs while Markram took a back seat. Klaasen scored 80*(34) and Markram scored 42*(28) as the protea duo added 116 runs in 55 balls, finishing at 277/3.

So near, yet so far for MI

MI came to bat with the intent of scripting a record IPL run-chase. However, with constant wickets after the batters getting starts didn't help. Captain Hardik Pandya struggled for his 24(20) and Tilak Varma scored the solitary fifty for them, scoring 64(34).

Pat Cummins and Jaydev Unadkat took two wickets each for 35 and 47 runs respectively. Shahbaz Ahmed dismissed dangerous looking Ishan Kishan who was scoring at the rate of 261.53 at that point.

The visitors fell short by 31 runs and Abhishek Sharma was adjudged as Player of The Match for his incredible cameo.
