The World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 is all set to begin on July 18 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. This exciting cricket tournament features retired stars from around the world, bringing fans a chance to see their favourite legends back on the field. The opening match will be between the England Champions and Pakistan Champions, a clash many are eagerly waiting for.

Indian Helmets on Former West Indies Stars

One interesting and unique highlight this year is that famous Caribbean players, Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, and Dwayne Bravo, will wear Indian-made helmets while playing for the West Indies Champions team. These helmets come from the Indian Roll Ball League (IRBL), a sports organisation promoting an Indian-origin sport called Roll Ball.

Roll Ball started in Pune, India, in 2003 and is a game combining elements of basketball, handball, and skating. It has grown quickly and is now played in over 60 countries. The IRBL is preparing to launch the first international Roll Ball league later this year.

This helmet partnership between IRBL and the West Indies Champions cricket team symbolises friendship and unity between Indian and Caribbean sports.

The WCL 2025 is officially recognised by the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and is the world’s only Legends T20 cricket league. Some of the biggest names in cricket, like Yuvraj Singh, Shahid Afridi, and Chris Gayle, will take part in the tournament.

India Champions Ready To Defend The Title

The defending champions, India Champions, led by Yuvraj Singh, are ready to defend their title. Their team also includes former stars like Shikhar Dhawan, Robin Uthappa, and Ambati Rayudu. They will open their campaign on July 20 against the Pakistan Champions, a classic rivalry that never fails to excite.

This year’s WCL will feature 18 matches across famous cricket grounds in England: Edgbaston (Birmingham), County Ground (Northampton), Grace Road (Leicester), and Headingley (Leeds).

The final showdown will happen on August 2, promising a grand celebration of cricket legends.
