Something new has come up to reshape world cricket. After an intense six months of review, the World Cricketers Association came up with a detailed report to fix the current scenario of world cricket. This game-changing move could redefine the future of cricket on a global scale.

After the long review session, the WCA introduced some recommendations. These include clearer revenue distribution, better regulations for player movements in T20 leagues, designated windows for international cricket, and more.

An Optimal Calendar For More Clarity In Revenue Generating

After months of detailed research, the WCA reported that the current scenario of the global cricket finance is unclear. That is impacting the game. They also shaded lights over players’ contributions as the committee thinks they are getting underpaid compared to the wealth they generate.

Three nations dominate cricket’s financial landscape, claiming 83% of the total revenue, while bilateral series outside this elite trio contribute less than 4% to the overall earnings. Out of all the revenues, players' payments are made with only 10%.

After the detailed report, the WCA opted for an optimal calendar to reshape the scenario. After following this, an additional 246 million dollars in revenue will be generated annually. That will affect the BCCI as their revenue will be cut by 38.5 % to 10%.

Proposing A 21-Day Window

As the T20 leagues are taking up the world, the WCA introduced a new rule regarding the windows. As many of the T20 leagues do not have a proper window structure and which is impacting their national contract. To fix the issues, WCA is set to opt for a simpler structure.

The WCA proposes four 21-day windows for Core International Cricket (CIC), allowing teams to compete within their division in a series over a two-year span. Each series would feature at least one match per format, with separate league tables for each format leading to qualification for ICC tournaments.

Outside the window, teams can opt to play a bilateral series. The report outlines a proposed international cricket schedule for 2028, suggesting key playing windows in February-March, May-June, September, and December. It also factors in major events like the T20 World Cup and the 2028 Olympics.

Shape The Leadership Structure

Leadership is a big thing, whether in a cricket team or on the board. Addressing concerns about its absence, the WCA has emphasized the need for better governance. As the game is run by powerful cricket boards worldwide, WCA is called up for the Global Game Leadership Committee to offer strategic recommendations to the ICC for a more balanced future.

The WCA also opened up the regulations of the game for the future. They criticize the ICC’s approach to regulating T20 tournaments, stating that the existing system no longer aligns with the evolving scenario.

Some big names of cricket like Pat Cummins, Jason Holder, Tim Southee, Alyssa Healy, Hayley Matthews, Rashid Khan and many others took part in this survey. The WCA is already in talks with ICC, as they have already presented the report to ICC.
