Virat Kohli, a name synonymous with breaking records, continues to amaze cricket fans and epxerts with his extraordinary performances. As one of the most exceptional contemporary batters, Kohli has already achieved remarkable feats in his illustrious career, surpassing records once considered unbreakable.

However, he shows no signs of slowing down and remains determined to conquer more milestones. One of the most significant records within Kohli's reach is the record for the most centuries in ODI cricket, a record currently held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

Tendulkar, often referred to as the 'God of Cricket,' has an impressive tally of 49 centuries in ODIs. Kohli, with 48 ODI centuries to his name, was on the verge of equalling this remarkable record.

Kohli had an opportunity to equal Tendulkar's record during India's last 2023 World Cup match against New Zealand in Dharamsala. However, he fell just short of his 49th ODI century, getting dismissed at 95. While batting at 95, Kohli attempted a big shot but mistimed it, losing his wicket to Matt Henry on the fourth delivery of the 48th over.

The cricketing world eagerly awaits the day when 'King Kohli' will equal the record held by the Master Blaster. This remarkable pursuit of cricketing immortality has been beautifully captured in a promotional film by Star Sports, titled 'Chasing God, Chasing Glory.'

The debate over who is the greatest batter between Tendulkar and Kohli has been a hot topic for years now. While the Master Blaster amassed 18,426 runs in 452 innings at an average of 44.83, Kohli boasts 13,437 runs in just 274 innings at a remarkable average of 58.16.

Kohli is the fourth-highest run-scorer in the tournament, accumulating 354 runs in five innings at a staggering average of 118 and a strike rate of 90.54.

With four league stage games remaining, followed by the high-stakes semi-finals and the final, the stage is set for Kohli to etch his name in cricketing history.

India is scheduled to play their next World Cup game against England in Lucknow on October 29, and fans across the nation eagerly anticipate Kohli scoring his 49th ODI century and setting the stage for a historic 50th century to break the record.
