Lockie Ferguson Injured; Ruled Out Of The Remainder of the AUS-NZ World Cup Match

New Zealand's speedster Lockie Ferguson, suffered an injury in the ongoing World Cup 2023 match against Australia in Dharamsala. He experienced discomfort in his right Achilles while bowling and won't return to the field.

Ferguson's injury occurred after delivering just three overs in the match, during which he conceded 38 runs. It was unusual for him to be introduced as the first change bowler in the powerplay, as he typically bowls in the middle overs and at the death.

This strategic change was made by New Zealand's stand-in captain, Tom Latham, as the opening bowlers, Trent Boult and Matt Henry, had been expensive in the early stages of the game.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) officially confirmed Ferguson's injury via their official 'X' handle, stating that he wouldn't be available for the remainder of the match.

The statement from NZC read,

"Lockie Ferguson is off the field after experiencing pain in his right Achilles while bowling. He won’t return to the field and will be further assessed."

Following Ferguson's unfortunate exit due to injury, Latham had to bring in James Neesham to fill the bowling gap. This change proved effective as Neesham managed to dismiss the dangerous Glenn Maxwell for 41 runs off 24 balls.

Although he created opportunities in the following over, the fielders couldn't capitalize on them.

Eventually, Trent Boult and Matt Henry combined to wrap up Australia's innings at 388 runs in 49.2 overs.
