On the back of a disciplined bowling performance, followed by some fierce batting from Shafali Verma and Jess Jonassen Delhi Capitals beat Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 9 wickets in Match 14 of the ongoing Women's Premier League (WPL) at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

It was a one-sided affair at RCB’s fortress as Delhi Capitals secured their fifth win of the season, while RCB lost fourth game in a row in what has been a forgetful return to their home this season. With this win, the Capitals also became the first team to qualify for the playoffs.

Here's how the RCB-W vs DC-W panned out in Bengaluru:

Mandhana Disappoints RCB Fans Again

After inserting to bat first, RCB had a steady start, managing to score 45 on the board inside the first six overs. Smriti Mandhana's poor run continued as the southpaw fell against Shikha Pandey early in the powerplay.

After Mandhana's dismissal, Ellyse Perry joined hands with Dani Wyatt-Hodge and the pair ensured to keep the scoreboard moving without losing any further wicket in the powerplay.

However, just when RCB were looking to up the run-flow after the powerplay, they lost the wicket of Wyatt-Hodge and Meg Lanning's side managed to restrict the hosts to 63 for 2 at the halfway mark.

RCB’s Saviour Ellyse Perry Delivers

After the halfway mark, Perry anchored the innings well with some calculated risk and went on to complete a well made half-century. She added another 66 runs for the third wicket with Raghvi Bist, who had a slow start and failed to accelerate her innings towards the end.

Moreover, the likes of Richa Ghosh and Kanika Ahuja failed to get going and RCB failed to post a formidable total, despite Perry's brilliance. With the ball, Shikha Pandey and Nallapureddy Charani were the pick of the bowlers as both of them picked two wickets each and helped Capitals to restrict RCB to 147 for 5 in their 20 overs.

Capitals Recover After Lanning's Early Struggle

Chasing 148, Meg Lanning got off to a horrible start as she struggled to find her way and got dismissed for just 2 off 12. Following Lanning's wicket, Shafali Verma took centre stage as she launched a fierce assault to take DC to 41 for 1 at the end of the powerplay.

Jess Jonassen, who got promoted up the order, had a watchful start initially and began to play her shots after the powerplay. The left-hander never allowed the RCB spinners to settle down as DC were 83 for one after the 10th over.

Shafali, Jonassen Relentless Onslaught Dismantles RCB

After the halfway mark, Shafali and Jonassen continued their onslaught, with both the batters reaching their half-centuries. They further continued their dominance and never allowed RCB to comeback in the game.

Eventually, the host suffers yet another loss, their fourth at home this season and Delhi Capitals secured victory by nine wickets with 27 balls to spare. Renuka Singh was the only positive with the ball for RCB, finishing with 1/28 in her four.
