Ashish Nehra Lauds Kohli, Rohit For Acing Respective Roles In World Cup Quest

Former India pacer Ashish Nehra applauded the legendary duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for acing their respective roles with the bat in Men in Blue's quest to reclaim the ultimate crown at the ICC World Cup 2023

Nehra reiterated Kohli and Rohit's impact value to India's excellent winning run in the build-up to the tournament finale on Sunday (November 19) against arch-rivals Australia in Ahmedabad by stating that their performances and influence are intertwined with each other's game.

While Rohit has been an imposing top-order aggressor for opposition attacks, Kohli has retained his prolific run-scoring ways to scale the batting charts.

The former has blasted a whopping 550 runs at a strike rate of 124.15, while the latter has compiled a jaw-dropping 711 runs in ten innings at an average of 101.57 with three memorable centuries.

Nehra Applauds Rohit-Kohli Duo

In what could well be their final appearance at a men's 50-over World Cup, the two stalwarts of Indian cricket have risen to the task at hand and punched together in their team's dream run, featuring ten consecutive victories before the summit clash against the five-time champions.

Making an accurate assessment of their respective performance and impact value at the crease for India, Nehra said without Rohit's belligerence and devastating effect at the top, Kohli wouldn't have had the time to establish his great solidity and control for the rest of the pack.

Similarly, if Kohli wasn't present in India's packed batting line-up with his remarkable steadfast nature and ability to build an innings as the world's finest anchor, Rohit would've been in two minds whether to persist with his aggressive streak against the new-ball, for an early wicket would've then given opposition easy inroads.

"Why Rohit Sharma can play so fearless & aggressively is because Virat Kohli is there - Virat Kohli plays with his time because Rohit Sharma plays like this so both seem to be two sides of a coin, they play together for the team," Nehra told Cricbuzz amidst debates on the two top run-getters as to who among them has been the greater contributor to India's World Cup run.

Regardless of the outside debates, Kohli and Rohit would be immensely satisfied with their performances and impact on India's fortunes in the competition, which would be greatly recognised by the rest of the squad and players in the first-choice playing unit. The two greats will be striving for one last push when they grace the field in Ahmedabad.
