After a disappointing campaign in the Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan are set to embark on a new journey as they will take on New Zealand in a white-balls series, beginning from March 16. The Champions Trophy debacle has led to many changes with captaincy being taken away from Mohammad Rizwan and new players being brought in.
One of the bold decisions by PCB was to include Omair Bin Yousuf in the T20I squad for the New Zealand tour. The promising player had previously represented Pakistan before but never got a longer rope.
Shaheen, Rauf get hammered in nets
The Pakistan team had a training camp in Lahore prior to the departure for New Zealand and in the nets, Omair Yousuf stole the show as he took Pakistan's two most experienced players, Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf to the cleaners.
Both Shaheen Afridi and Rauf came with all their energy to trouble Omair Yousuf, but the batter was unfazed as he took them to the cleaners and looked astute against them. Ahead of the series against New Zealand, Yousuf could be Pakistan's X-factor.
Shaheen, Rauf dropped from ODIs
After a shambolic performance in the Champions Trophy, the Pakistan selectors decided to drop both Shaheen and Rauf from the ODI squad for New Zealand tour. Both the pacers had an underwhelming campaign and were removed from the team.
However, interestingly, the selectors showed fai2th in them and retained them for the T20Is, which was a baffling decision. Also, the T20I skipper, Mohammad Rizwan lost his captaincy and Agha Salman was the one who succeeded him.
