Historically, India captain Rohit Sharma has performed well against Pakistan. In 16 ODI innings against Pakistan, Rohit has scored 720 runs at an average of 51.43 and an impressive strike rate of 88.8.

Ahead of the India versus Pakistan match at the Asia Cup 2023, a clip from last year's Asia Cup match between the two rivals is doing rounds on social media. In the clip, Rohit Sharma can be seen playing the pull shot effortlessly off the bowling of Haris Rauf, one of Pakistan's premium pace bowlers.

Rohit was eventually dismissed in that same over by Rauf when he was batting on 28 off 16.

Pakistan went on the win the match by five wickets and one ball remaining. After Rohit and Rahul were unable to convert their starts into big totals, Virat Kohli brought stability into the innings with a knock of 60 and helped India post a total of 181 in 20 overs. However, a half-century by Mohammed Rizwan and a knock of 42 by Mohammed Nawaz took Pakistan over the line in a last-over thriller.

India will play against Pakistan on September 2 at the Pallekele Cricket Stadium in Kandy, Sri Lanka. This will be the first time the two teams will square off in the ODI format since the 2019 World Cup.

However, rain has been forecast on the day of the match, so it remains to be seen if we can get a full 100-over game. For the match to have a result, a minimum of 20-over per side match has to be played. In case of a washout, both teams will be rewarded a point each.

Pakistan defeated Nepal by a huge margin in their tournament opener. For India, the match against Pakistan will be their opening game.
