Rohit Sharma has predicted a blockbuster India vs Pakistan clash in the final of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. The ‘Men in Blue’ skipper stated the same a day prior to India’s opening match against their arch-rivals in Kandy’s Pallekele Stadium.
Rohit Sharma makes bold claim about Asia Cup 2023
During the pre-match press conference, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was asked to give his take on Asia Cup history, and to explain why an India vs Pakistan has never occurred in any final of its edition.
In response, the legendary batter claimed that the same might happen this time around, thus indirectly implying the bench strength and form of both teams. Sharma said:
“Probably maybe in this tournament," Rohit Sharma said in a presser on the eve of the INDO-PAK Group-A fixture of the Asia Cup 2023.
Regardless of Sharma’s final prophecy, the two arch-rivals will go up against each other on September 2 at Kandy’s Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
The match marks the opening Group A game of the Indian team, as well as a conclusion to Pakistan’s opening round campaign this competition.
Both India and Pakistan will likely face each other once again during the Super Four stage of the tournament. Remarkably, the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 itself serves as a dress rehearsal for all competing teams ahead of the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India.
At the World Cup, tournament host India is scheduled to face Babar Azam and co. on October 14 at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
