As Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer departed Mumbai for their ODI series against Sri Lanka, a fan's impassioned plea for them to win the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 brought a moment of light-heartedness. 

During their flight to Colombo, the fan eagerly urged the players to clinch victory in the prestigious tournament.

India, led by Rohit Sharma and coached by Gautam Gambhir, recently faced a tough 2-0 loss in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. 

This series defeat marked India’s first-ever loss after their triumphant T20 World Cup victory, raising concerns about the need for strategic adjustments as they prepare for the Champions Trophy 2025. 

The fan’s casual but enthusiastic request for the team to win the next ICC Champions Trophy elicited chuckles from both Sharma and Iyer. 

The fan’s earnest appeal, “Sir, abhi Champions Trophy jitna hai bas Champions Trophy!” (Sir, we need to win the Champions Trophy now), was met with laughter, emphasizing the weight of the request amidst the current challenges.

India's most recent ICC title came at the 2024 T20 World Cup, while their last Champions Trophy win was under MS Dhoni in 2013, where they defeated England. 

The BCCI has raised security concerns about traveling to Pakistan for the 2025 tournament, with Sri Lanka being considered as an alternate host, though this has yet to be finalized. The ICC is expected to make an official ruling soon, with the tournament scheduled for February 2025.
