[Watch] Ravi Ashwin Mindfully Tricks Shimron Hetmyer With A Carrom Ball Before IPL 2024

Ravichandran Ashwin showcased his mastery and nous during a net session bowling to his Rajasthan Royals (RR) teammate and explosive West Indies power-hitter Shimron Hetmyer ahead of the IPL 2024 on Tuesday (March 19).

The great off-spinner, who reached the Royals camp the same day after attending a special ceremony organised by Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) to celebrate his 100th Test and 500 Test wickets milestones, befuddled Hetmyer with his mind games and unmatched skill during a practice drill.

As Hetymer went about facing the modern-day legend, Ashwin informed him he has a virtual deep point, deep cover but also a square leg up inside the 30-yard circle.

In Hetmyer's mind, he would've thought he should be aiming for the mid-wicket region but Ashwin surprised him with a carrom ball that skidded through and had him plumb LBW.

As the swashbuckling left-hander went for an almighty slog sweep towards the on-side, Ashwin outsmarted him with a carrom ball that pitched in the good length region, went in straight and thudded into Hetmyer's front-pad for what would've been easy leg-before decision for the umpire.

Ashwin continues to trouble the batters on and off the field even at the twilight stage of his career. The 37-year-old is entering the IPL 2024 in tremendous form as seen in the back half of the five-Test series against the touring Englishmen.

Despite bowling reasonably well, the great off-spinner endured slim returns for the first three Tests of the series and had just 12 wickets for the assignment until then.

However, he was ultimately rewarded over the next four innings where he took two second-innings fifers in Ranchi and Dharamshala and helped India win the series 4-1.

Nevertheless, Ashwin alongside his RR teammate Hetmyer will be seen on the field on Sunday as the inaugural champions take on Lucknow in Jaipur.
