Team India made just one change to its provisional 15-member squad for ICC World Cup 2023 on the last day of final submission to the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday.

Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was included in place of Axar Patel, who failed to complete his recovery from the injury he suffered during Asia Cup.

The change was expected when Ashwin was selected for the first two matches of the recently concluded three-game ODI series against Australia, which served as the final preparation for both teams before India's inaugural hosting of the major event.

Ashwin took four wickets in two games against Australia, including 3 for 41 in the second match in Indore. Indian captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid voiced their support for Ashwin, emphasising the importance of his experience for Team India in the prestigious event.

Furthermore, in addition to R Ashwin's bowling abilities, his batting skills are also set to advantage India. Ahead of the World Cup, the Tamil Nadu cricketer actively engaged in batting practice during net sessions and was recently seen practising the reverse scoop shot.

The 2023 World Cup begins on October 5, with the opening match featuring the reigning champions, England, and the runners-up from the last edition, New Zealand, at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Team India will start its World Cup 2023 journey against Australia in Chennai on October 8.
