Naseem Shah gets abused [Source: @caniyaar/X.com]
The trend of Pakistan losing against the New Zealand side continued in the ODI series as well. After a drubbing in the T20Is, Pakistan were expected to perform better in the ODIs, but that didn't happen and the Kiwis decimated the visitors to clinch the first game of the series in a one-sided manner.
The batters, barring Babar Azam and Agha Salman flopped and so did the bowlers as only Haris Rauf stood tall and produced some problems for the New Zealand batters. One player who was under-confident heading into the contest was Naseem Shah and he didn't help his cause with a mediocre performance with bowl, bat and on the field.
Naseem Shah gets abuse from Pakistan fans
During the Kiwi innings, debutant Muhammad Abbas came out to bat and he could have been dismissed cheaply had Naseem caught the ball in the deep. Irfan Khan Niazi bowled it short as the Kiwi batter miscued his shot. Naseem failed to track the ball as it went past him for a boundary. At that stage, the Black Caps player was batting at 4, and he went onto add 48 more runs which proved to be the difference maker in the end.
Hence, when Pakistan was batting, Naseem was at the touchline and the Pakistan fans took it a bit too far as they hurled abuse at Naseem for his poor performance.
Babar, Agha Salman's performance goes in vain
Chasing 345, Pakistan needed its batters to fire but that didn't happen as wickets started to tumble at regular intervals. The onus was on Babar Azam to deliver the goods and while he scored a fluent half-century, the Pakistan star got dismissed for 78.
Agha Salman, too, scored a valiant fifty but that was not enough as New Zealand bowlers ran riot and won the contest by 73 runs.
