Indian speedster Mohammed Shami was recently spotted making his way to the Mumbai airport. A few days ago, the cricketer had visited the city to consult with the doctors regarding his ankle condition. As of now, he is expected to travel to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to attain full recovery.

Mohammed Shami recently turned up for the Indian team at the 2023 World Cup at home. The cricketer, however, opted himself out of team’s subsequent five-match T20I series against Australia citing fatigue.

On December 1, i.e., a few days after attending Mumbai, Shami was spotted making his way back to the airport. The cricketer had arrived to the city to seek medical attention for his ankle, as he braces himself for India’s forthcoming high-profile trip to South Africa.

According to an anonymous BCCI source, Shami sought medical advice in Mumbai, consulting with a sport’s orthopaedic expert for his ankle issue, which is reportedly not related to any on-field injury.

The 33-year-old was last spotted in action for Team India at the 2023 World Cup, where he collected 24 wickets from just seven games to emerge as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament. Remarkably, the legendary fast bowler could not feature in team’s initial four fixtures, and was only drafted into the playing XI after all-rounder Hardik Pandya had slumped to an injury against Bangladesh.

As of now, Shami is slated to tour South Africa for a two-match Test series in late December. The seasoned campaigner found his name among India’s 16-player squad for the fixtures, which will also form a part of the ongoing 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC). Much like senior pros Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Shami was also rested from team’s white-ball fixtures against the Proteas.
