The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 final was an emotional rollercoaster, bringing joy to Mumbai Indians and heartbreak to Delhi Capitals. The thrilling match took place at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, March 15, where Mumbai Indians emerged victorious by just eight runs, reclaiming the WPL title after two years.

A Heartbreaking Moment for Marizanne Kapp

South Africa cricketer Marizanne Kapp was seen in tears after DC’ narrow loss. It was her second consecutive disappointment in a major final, having also lost the T20 World Cup final last year against New Zealand with her national team.

Kapp was heartbroken, unable to believe the outcome, and was seen covering her face with her hands while crying.  A video of the emotional moment has gone viral on social media, with fans reacting to the heartbreaking scene.

Delhi Struggle In WPL Final Continue

This was DC’ third straight loss in a WPL final. Despite topping the league stage each season and securing a direct spot in the final, they have failed to lift the trophy every time. Captain Meg Lanning and her team once again fell short on the biggest stage.

Delhi Capitals had a strong start after choosing to bowl first. Kapp was the star with the ball, striking early to dismiss key Mumbai batters. She bowled all her four overs in one spell, finishing with impressive figures of 4-0-11-2. However, a solid partnership between Nat Sciver-Brunt (30 off 28 balls) and Harmanpreet Kaur (66 off 44 balls) helped Mumbai post a competitive total of 149/7 in 20 overs.

Chasing 150 to win, DC had a nightmare start. Their openers, Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma, were dismissed within the first three overs. The middle order, including Jess Jonassen and Annabel Sutherland, failed to make an impact. Kapp then stepped up with the bat, playing an attacking knock of 40 off 26 balls and building a crucial partnership with Jemimah Rodrigues. However, once Rodrigues got out, Delhi struggled to keep up with the required run rate.

In the final overs, Kapp fought hard to take her team over the line, but lack of support from the other end proved costly. Delhi fell short by eight runs, handing Mumbai Indians the WPL 2025 title.
