The out-of-favour Indian batter Karun Nair, who found his way with Northamptonshire County Cricket Club in the ongoing County season, has impressed one and all with his classy show by striking an unbeaten century against Surrey by the end of day 2, that too when his team was in trouble.

Nair came into bat when Northants were 51/2; however, soon after, they were reduced to 151 for six and desperately needed a partnership when Tom Taylor joined him after the seventh wicket fell for 193. Later, they stitched a 114-run stand to cross the 300-run mark, with the Indian star recording his maiden county century while Taylor scored 66.

By the end of day 2, Nair remains not out on the score of 144 with nine wickets down for the team on the score of 351 with the match still in the first innings of the four-day game taking place at Kennington Oval in London. Also, the Northants have been awarded three batting points for their magnificent show.

Karun's class came in handy on a day when the ball was doing a bit against the likes of Kemar Roach, Jamie Overton and Tom Lawes. During his knock of 144, Nair has smashed two maximums and 22 boundaries as he has maintained a strike rate upwards of 60.

Even when he made his debut last week against Warwickshire, the right-hander turned out to be the highest run-scorer for the team with a breezy 78.

This being his 16th First-Class Century, the 31-year-old still has a lot to offer to Indian cricket, as back in 2016, he became only the second Indian after Virendra Sehwag to thump a triple century in Test cricket.
