The stage is set for Shubman Gill to take over the Gujarat Titans (GT) captaincy with the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Appointed the franchise's new skipper following the controversial departure of Hardik Pandya, the rising young opener is in for the extra responsibility of leading an IPL team for the very first time.

Gill, who had joined the Titans franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 before emerging as the team's numero run-getter and the league's 'Orange Cap' holder in IPL 2023, has been handed the leadership reigns for the tournament ahead following Pandya's unexpected ouster and comeback to Mumbai Indians (MI).

While it's a serious task for the prodigious 24-year-old talent, a funny error was seen on the part of a journalist in his name when the gentleman concerned mistaken Gill to still be a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), his old franchise.

Funny Error Around Shubman Gill-KKR Association

Even though Gill left the KKR franchise after the completion of the IPL 2021 held in UAE and joined the new Gujarat franchise before IPL 2022, this journalist confused him as not just a KKR player but also the captain of the two-time champions.

In a funny viral clip, the journalist can be seen emphasizing hilariously that Gill can rest easy as player and captain at the top of the order knowing KKR's talented middle-order batter Rinku Singh is there to follow him in the batting order.

IPL 2024 is huge for Gill, who has the challenge to retain Titans' successful streak as a team, having lifted the prestigious title in the 2022 season and ending the following season as the tournament's runners-up behind winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The Indian batter will be leading the franchise for the first time against Pandya's Mumbai juggernaut in Ahmedabad on Sunday (March 24).
