[Watch] Jay Shah's Long Chat With Ishan Kishan After BCCI Contract Snub

Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) honorary secretary Jay Shah recently engaged in a heartfelt conversation with Mumbai Indians' Ishan Kishan following the team's electrifying Indian Premier League (IPL) opener against Gujarat Titans.

Shah's presence at the game was notable, as he wrapped his arm around Kishan's shoulder, exchanging words in a compassionate manner. This interaction follows Shah's earlier firm stance towards Kishan and other Indian players who hadn't prioritized domestic cricket over the past year.

Kishan, who hadn't seen action in top-tier cricket since the end of November 2023, withdrew from the South Africa Test series citing personal reasons, opting for a break from the game. Notably absent from the Ranji Trophy 2024, Kishan dedicated his time to rigorous training ahead of IPL 2024.

In a significant development, the national body omitted both Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan from the annual retainership contract list, despite their contributions to India's ODI World Cup campaign the previous year.

This conversation between Shah and Kishan hints at a deeper dialogue within Indian cricket, reflecting on the balance between individual aspirations and national commitments. Kishan's decision to focus on his IPL preparation, while understandable from a career perspective, has raised questions about the players' responsibilities towards domestic cricket and national team selection criteria.

Although, MI lost the match by 6 runs but there was a point in the game that they looked in good command. However, Shubman Gill & Co. along with Ashish Nehra's intelligence, they managed to scalp 6 wickets in the last four overs and snatched the match from MI's hands.
