Star Indian batter Virat Kohli is set to make his return to the shortest format after a 14-month hiatus, as India faces Afghanistan in the second match of the three-game series in Indore on Sunday, November 14.

Kohli's last T20I appearance dates back to 2022 during the T20 World Cup semi-final against England. Despite being named in the squad for the series, he missed the first T20I in Mohali due to personal reasons.

The absence of the injured Rashid Khan on the Afghan side adds further strength to India's batting lineup with Kohli back in action. Beyond Kohli's individual brilliance, his return underscores India's renewed focus on T20 cricket, utilizing this series as crucial preparation for upcoming challenges.

Fans are eagerly anticipating Kohli's comeback to the T20I arena after a long break, with his last match played in 2022 at the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia. In a viral video from the Holkar stadium, a fan was seen bowing down in respect to King Kohli during India's practice session ahead of the second T20I.

While a series victory against Afghanistan might not be regarded as one of India's most significant cricketing accomplishments, they recognize the importance of this opportunity, particularly with the T20 World Cup on the horizon and a commanding victory in the series opener.

Kohli's inclusion in the squad for the Afghanistan series points towards his probable participation in the T20 World Cup later this year in the West Indies and the USA.

The 'Run machine' Kohli will be eager to showcase his prowess in the shortest format, building on the momentum from the ODI World Cup 2023, where he emerged as the tournament's top run-scorer. Kohli's insatiable hunger for runs across formats will be a pivotal force driving him in the upcoming matches. Notably, the only century Kohli has scored in T20Is came against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022.

With the return of the master, it is anticipated that Tilak Varma, who stood in for Kohli at the number three spot, might be excluded from the match. In the opening game, Tilak managed 26 runs off 22 balls in Mohali, falling short of making a substantial impact.

With two games remaining in the series, Kohli will be eager to score big runs and secure victory for India when he takes the field in Indore. The second battle in the three-match series will see Rohit Sharma's side aiming to level the series and secure a win, while the Afghan team will strive to even the scores.
